How Publishing Works: A Spoof by Macmillan
I first saw this tongue-in-cheek explanation of the publishing process, produced by the digital marketing group at Macmillan, on a fabulous writing blog I just discovered, Ghost Word by Frances Dinkelspiel, author of Towers of Gold: How One Jewish Immigrant Named Isaias Hellman Created California (St. Martin’s Press, 2008).
Dinkelspiel is a journalist with publishing credentials from the New York Times to People magazine and many other enviable places, and it shows in her blog, which has some of the meatiest coverage of writing and books I’ve come across. Recent posts include an interview with the books editor of the San Francisco Chronicle, coverage of Bookscan’s 50 top-selling books of 2008, and great news briefs and literary notes.
Ghost Word has a new place of honor in my personal bookmarks, and I’ve added it to my Best of the Blogs.
