Summer Reading Recommendations, Part 3

Salon.com has a nice collection of summer reading recommendations from authors who appeared at Book Expo America earlier this month. Above is Neil Gaiman, but if you follow the link, you’ll find video from authors ranging from Sarah Dunant to Dave Barry. Salon also has an article on recommended memoirs to read at the beach, and recommendations for historical fiction, “chick lit” (a term I’d like to comment on at a future date) and thrillers.

Though it will make clear my cluelessness, I’m posing this question: Isn’t Salon.com a site you have to pay for? It used to be, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised today to be able to navigate freely and read complete articles. If they’ve gone freebie, I’m thrilled. Their books coverage is terrific. Know anything about Salon’s current status (free/pay to view)? Share it in comments.
